Jim Adams’ Song Lyric Sunday gives us the chance to share familiar, and sometimes not so familiar, songs.

If you fancy sharing one of your favourite songs you can find out how to participate, and also listen to all the great entries, here.

This week I’m offering an obscure old-time rhythm and blues band the Four Clefs. If you have heard of them it is probably for a few of their singles from the World War II era that still resonate with modern fans, including the song for the troops “V Day Stomp” which was written by band vocalist and singer-songwriter John Green (also known as Johnny Green) in 1944.

Today I’m offering Pie AND Cake, and I’m sure that there will not be many who can resist.

Without further ado here is I Like Pie, I Like Cake from the album Those Dirty Blues Volume 3.

Drums & Vocals – William Chapman, Piano & Background Vocals – James Marshall, Guitar & Background Vocals – Johnny Green, Background Vocals – Melvin Chapman. Recorded In Chicago July 22nd 1941.

and as a bonus here is a suggestion for restaurant owners on how they could comply with social distancing:

Four Clefs

I like pie
I like cake
I like anything you make
I like your crackers too
Crumbled up in chicken stew
When I see your jelly roll
Then I lose all my self-control
But of all these things I like you best of all
I like pie
I like cake
I like anything you make
I like your crackers too
Crumbled up in chicken stew
When I see your jelly roll
Then I lose all my self-control
But of all these things I like you best of all
