Jim Adams’ Song Lyric Sunday gives us the chance to share familiar, and sometimes not so familiar, songs. Jim has given us Hold/Pause/Stop/Wait this week to be included in the title or lyrics.
If you fancy sharing one of your favourite songs you can find out how to participate, and also listen to all the great entries, here.
I’ve used this song before, in May 2019, but I make no apology for using it again. Firstly it fits the prompt perfectly. Secondly, it has an important message and fits in with World Mental Health Day which was Saturday 10th October, the day I’m writing this and, finally, It is a brilliant song and I love it!
There is far too much hurt in the world. Sometimes we hurt people deliberately, sometimes we hurt unintentionally. Sometimes we even hurt others without realising we have done so.
Some people suffer hurt through illness, some through loss of loved ones, others because they feel hopeless, or neglected, or useless.
Some are hurt physically, many are hurt mentally.
We all will, at some time in our lives, hurt someone in some way. For any that I have hurt, I am truly sorry. For those that are hurting now, and for those who can see no end to their hurt, I offer love, and hugs, unconditionally. Hold on, it will get better!
Sadly, there is no doubt that at times Everybody hurts. Here is REM to sing the song. The final words are what matters: “You are not alone”.

Everybody Hurts
When your day is long
And the night
The night is yours alone
When you’re sure you’ve had enough
Of this life
Well hang on
Don’t let yourself go
‘Cause everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone (hold on)
(Hold on) if you feel like letting go (hold on)
If you think you’ve had too much
Of this life
Well, hang on
‘Cause everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts
Don’t throw your hand
Oh, no
Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone
No, no, no, you’re not alone
If you’re on your own
In this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you’ve had too much
Of this life
To hang on
Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes
So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts
You are not alone

This is really a great song Peter and you must have used it on May 5, 2019 when the prompt was Hurt/Pain/Agony/Suffer. “(Hold on) if you feel like letting go” sends a great message that things will eventually get better and many people need this hope.

It is too bad that so many men are deprived of the right to feel rotten. Look at the president(I will never capitalize for him)and his minimizing of his bout of the virus. He exemplifies the American “buck up bucky” asked of men here.

Music is very powerful. It can lift you up, bring you down and make you twist and shout!
It just takes a 10 count before you respond to a slight or a tweet or a text. It only takes a second to reach out if you are hurting, to offer comfort to someone else who might need some support. Be nice and see how wonderful your world can be. You are not alone.

Your words here are so important, Peter. Thank you for sharing them.
A powerful, poignant, important post!
There are always so many people who are hurting, but 2020 has caused so much more hurt. 😦
Yes…we must reach out, let people know they are not alone!
Yes, hold on…hold on!

Like you I love this song. The lyrics force us to stop and think and remember that pain needs to serve it’s time.
Great song Peter and I loved singing with it, always the same line! 🙂

This has been one of my favourite songs for years, but I can’t listen to it without the tears welling. The words tug at the heartstrings, but the way he sings it, so packed with emotion, really gets to me.
