Song Lyric Sunday – May 17 2020 – Song that includes a number

song-lyric-sundayJim Adams’ Song Lyric Sunday gives us the chance to share familiar, and sometimes not so familiar, songs.

If you fancy sharing one of your favourite songs you can find out how to participate, and also listen to all the great entries, here.

This week Jim has asked  us to find a song that includes a number and that gives us a pretty big pool to choose from.

I’ve chosen a song about writing a song, and it’s been written by a night owl who finds his creative juices flow better in the wee small hours. However, he gets a bit of writer’s block, something I’m sure we all encounter at times. While ideas are batted around, someone asks the time and receives the reply “Oh, it’s 25, or 6, to 4!”

The band is Chicago, and here is the original recording.

In this next recording at Tanglewood, on 21 July 1970, you’ve arrived too early. They are still setting up and having trouble with the drums.

In this one Chicago and REO Speedwagon jam out together Live at Red Rocks Ampitheatre!

and here Chicago play at the  Guitar Center Sessons on DIRECTV

25 Or 6 To 4

Chicago

Waiting for the break of day
Searching for something to say
Dancing lights against the sky
Giving up I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or 6 to 4

Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should have tried to do some more
25 or 6 to 4

Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say
Waiting for the break of day
25 or 6 to 4
25 or 6 to 4

      1. Most of their repertoire is Chicago, but they’ve started branching out and do some Earth Wind & Fire and Blood Sweat & Tears. Tremendous musicians, all of them, and the young woman Ksenia is going to be a superstar. And they do it out of love for the music…
