Song Lyric Sunday Theme for 28/04/2019 – Boogie/Rock/Rolling Stone

img_1345-3Thank you to Jim Adams, who tirelessly hosts Song Lyric Sunday and gives us the chance to share lots of favourite, and some not so familiar, songs. He also comes up with some fantastically researched material to accompany his own choices of music. Quite where he finds the time I do not know.

The theme for this week is Boogie/Rock/ Rolling Stone.

If you fancy sharing one of your favourite songs you can find out how to participate, and also listen to all the great entries, here.

Talking of Jim always finding time to add lots of detail about his music choices, this week I find that I do not have my normal time to add my background to the music I’ve chosen, so here it is, unadorned with any detail. I hope you enjoy Rock and Roll is King by The Electric Light Orchestra.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Is King

Electric Light Orchestra

Listen everybody let me tell you ’bout the rock ‘n’ roll

Feel that rhythm and it’s really gonna thrill your soul

She said come along with me, to a land of make believe

She said wamalama bamalama rock ‘n’ roll is king

She loves that rock ‘n’ roll and she plays it all night long

That’s all she ever tells me when I call her on the telephone

She says feel that jumpin’ beat, and git up on your feet

She says wamalama bamalama rock ‘n’ roll is king

[Chorus]

Oh let those guitars play

Play for me play for me

Oh let that song ring out

That’s how it’s meant to be

It rolls like a train that’s comin’ on down the track

She rolled over Beethoven and she gave Tchaikovsky back

She loves that drivin’ beat, she goes dancin’ on down the street

She said wamalama bamalama rock ‘n’ roll is king

[Chorus]

When she comes around and I’m listenin’ to the radio

She says you can’t do that ’cause all I wanna do is rock ‘n’ roll

Now here I’m gonna stay where that music starts to play

She says wamalama bamalama rock ‘n’ roll is king

She says wamalama bamalama rock ‘n’ roll is king

Songwriters: Jeff Lynne

….and a little bonus of Boogie Nights from Heatwave.

  1. Ahh gotta love a bit of ELO..great choice, Peter! I’ve always been a big fan, & the “Out Of The Blue” double gatefold album was one of my most played records back in the late 1970’s..though this wasn’t on there. I was so glad to see Jeff playing live again, they made so many fabulous records!

      1. Ahh yes, I agree, Peter. Roy is so talented, in so many ways. I met him once at the BBC Pebble Mill studios. I was into musical theatre in a big way at the time & had won some tickets to a show, & had to go into the studios to review it. He was there to be interviewed about what he was up to at the time. He was so lovely & down to earth, & I managed to get his autograph on my show programme! 😂

      2. Yes, I’d forgotten he’d moved your way. Thankfully, he’s still performing & doing his own thing. I love the music of ELO from the 1970’s, it was part of the soundtrack to my teenage years, but I think Roy would’ve wanted to diversify more. You can still tell if Jeff Lynne has produced an artist, there’s always that ELO sound.
