Helen’s back from her road trip and wishes us all to emulate her by choosing a drive/driving song this week.
Well, that’s easy for me! I always go back to my youth (who wouldn’t?) and seek out a Beatles song. Just because I love them, they were my youth, and they have some great tunes and lyrics!
It has to be Drive my Car. Apparently there is some hidden suggested sexual meaning behind it, but who knew? I certainly didn’t!
Without further ado, here it is. Hope you enjoy it, I certainly will.
Drive My Car
Asked a girl what she wanted to be
She said baby, can’t you see
I want to be famous, a star on the screen
But you can do something in between
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you
I told a girl that my prospects were good
And she said baby, it’s understood
Working for peanuts is all very fine
But I can show you a better time
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you
I told a girl I can start right away
And she said listen babe I got something to say
I got no car and it’s breaking my heart
But I’ve found a driver and that’s a start
Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah
Beep beep’m beep beep yeah

Groupies spring to mind here, other than that I wouldn’t have thought of it as having a sexual tone either.
When my children were young most of our summers were spent at one seaside resort or another. Wonderful for for us, but come the last week in August when it was time for the kids and me to go home, I was more than ready, and our first song on the tape was always Country Roads sung by Olivia Newton John.
Right now son Joshua and I are spending a few days in the Lake District so I think I’ll download that track when it’s time to go home!
Can’t believe how green everything is up here even after the heatwave! We are staying in a seventeenth century inn that is fed by a well and they’ve been worried it would dry up! You certainly wouldn’t think so looking at the lush grass outside my window.

Sounds delightful. The seventeenth century inn that is, not the groupies!

Reblogged this on Wonderwall and commented:
Some great songs being picked for Helen’s challenge. Including the Beatles Baby you can drive my car (which Peter picked); I was thinking there was a Beatles one I liked about driving, but before the Beatles song came to mind … The line I like driving my car, it is not quite a Jaguar’ came to mind. I have sung that one line lots but, don’t think I could have conjured up any other lyrics from the song. It is by Madness. Here are all the lyrics:
Driving In My Car
Madness
I’ve been driving in my car, it’s not quite a Jaguar
I bought it in Primrose Hill from a bloke from Brazil
It was made in fifty-nine in a factory by the Tyne
It says Morris on the door, the G.P.O. owned it before
I drive in it for my job, the governor calls me a slob
But I don’t really care, give me some gas and the open air
It’s a bit old but it’s mine, I mend it in my spare time
Just last week I changed the oil, the rocker valves and the coil
Just last week I changed the oil
Last week it went round the clock, I also had a little knock
I dented somebody’s fender, he learnt not to park on a bender, ha ha ha
I’ve been driving in my car, it don’t look much but I’ve been far
I drive up to Muswell Hill, I’ve even been to Selsey Bill
I drove along the A45, I had her up to 58
This copper stopped me the other day, you’re mistaken what could I say
The tyres were a little worn, they were O.K., I could have sworn
I like driving in my car, I’m satisfied I’ve got this far
I like driving in my car, it don’t look much but I’ve been far
I like driving in my car, even with a flat tyre
I like driving in my car, it’s not quite a Jaguar
I like driving in my car, I’m satisfied I’ve got this far

Haha, great pick! I will refrain from saying what I was first thinking, since it could be taken several different ways. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
